Event: TALES REMAIN
Dates: 18 Feb 2022 - 8 Apr 2022
The show pulls together a whole new body of work produced by Dianne during (and because of) the last two years of the pandemic lockdowns.
Focusing on the mythic, folkloric and fantastic, her works cavort through imaginary childhoods laced with magic, languorous and sensual retellings of familiar tales such as Andersen’s The Little Mermaid and images that have a fascinating and familiar feel, though never encountered before.
There is a lavish and deliberate use of complimentary colours, gold leaf, layers of glazing and varnish to produce narratives trapped delicately beneath the surface which reveal themselves with each viewing. A truth desperate to be told.
The show is visually joyous, optimistic but also laced with pathos for the human condition and the characters trapped within.
There is a rare magic within these works.

Event: Localism
Dates: 10 Oct 2015 - 7 Feb 2016
‘Localism’ is an ambitious project telling the story of art in Middlesbrough from its beginnings in 1829 to now. It takes a radical approach to exhibition making, inviting the public to help write the narrative with workshops that grow the show, adding to it as we go, thus creating an encyclopaedic family tree of creativity on Teesside.
It’s also more than just an exhibition as we join up people and places across the region to celebrate and debate our own cultural history and its impact on the wider world. Topics include Christopher Dresser and the Linthorpe Pottery, bridge building, the remarkable Boosbeck Industries in the 1930s and the existence of mima itself. In a thoroughly internationalised world, Localism restates the vitally important role of the local in the development of art and society.

Biography
I wanted to tell you a little bit about why I create the art that I do, and why it means so much to mean when people collect these paintings.
My belief/my desire is to create connections, between you and you!
I believe that art has a unique ability to open a pathway for you to see/experience something sublime, and to access a higher part of yourself, through looking, experiencing and feeling the emotions, memories and desires which come up.
I fundamentally believe that each painting I create is meant for a particular person, and my job- along with creating the painting is to find that person, and let them experience whatever that artwork is meant to show them.
I am a full time studio based Fine Artist, painting and drawing life, love and people, I live and work in the North East of England.
My work explores beauty, femininity, love,
passion and a sense of self. The inspiration comes from memories, life
experiences, dreams, fantasies and traumas.
As with all artists the work taps into the stream of artists and artworks from across the ages, none of us exist in a vacuum, influences come in from a range of eras and genres.
My work is driven by the desire to create
work which pushes the boundaries of my own art practice, exploring both
figurative themes and ‘the surface’, through various mediums. I constantly
strive to make innovative work, with a foundation in observation, drawing and
mark making, my
practice has explored painting, inked work, printmaking, sculpture,
installation and site specific work.
Painting makes my heart sing!
When I am free, when I allow my materials to be free, when I find "happy accidents" which I can hone into usable, repeatable techniques, drips, spills, layers.
Since completing my formal arts education, gaining both a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and a Masters Degree in Fine Art, I have exhibited nationally and locally, including solo exhibitions and group shows, both commercial and gallery settings, also many commercial and private commissions. Including a commission for the Director and Screen Writer Joss Whedon, this came about as part of my last Kickstarter Exhibition Project.
I work from my studio in Middlesbrough as part of the Gilkes Street Artists studio group
