About Corinne Hamer

  • Biography
Corinne is a UK based artist having previously worked in the finance industry.  While appreciating art most of her life, she began painting about four years ago and is largely self-taught.
Corinne paints almost exclusively with oils and works in a Studio space at The Artworks, Halifax, West Yorkshire.  She considers oils as the most vibrant and challenging of the mediums and the vibrancy of colours and textures are shown within her work.  However, due to the 2020 Covid-19 virus and the UK lockdown Corinne was only able to access acrylic paints and has produced a number of different style paintings.
Corinne is particularly inspired by the Netherlandish Art of the Sixteenth Century, notably the two masters Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel the Elder.  She is totally fascinated by their work.  Bosch who embodies the phantasmagorical force of painting, while Bruegel through his true-to-life landscapes and frank depictions of peasants.  She loves the idea that there is a story within their works and has been inspired to paint some of their works but applying her own style of painting.
As an artist Corinne loves to present the viewer with themes and subjects that raise their own thoughts and views on what the subject matter is telling them.
Corinne has now completed painting the Seven Deadly Sin series of drawings of Pieter Bruegel the Elder.  Bruegel made these preparatory drawings in ink for subsequent engraving by Pieter van der Heyden.  His drawings depict the essence of human nature by illustrating moralising imagery through a comic lens.  Corinne’s aim is to bring these drawings to life by applying her painting style using vibrant colours and textures.
Corinne is passionate about her work she produces and hopes that the viewer will love her work as much as she does when painting.
