About Cliona Coyle

  • Biography
I try to evoke a sense of transparency and sensitivity of light in my work ,catching the atmosphere of mist drifting over mountain tops. By constantly witnessing changing weather patterns whilst growing up near Benbulben, a mountain close to the sea I experienced that mystique of an ever changing landscape.  An early artist influence was Jack Yeats and more recently have been told my work is similar to that of  WMJ Turner. In the studio, acrylic or oil goes on to canvas in broad sweeps, and a constant sway or removing and adding creates the transparent effect of light. This technique allows my  canvasses to glow, almost approaching a kind of transparency and it is this that so often makes light the key subject of my work. One of my most proudest moments to date  was when one of my works was bought as part of the National British Collection.
