Biography
Sculptor-turned-painter Clare Woods bases her bold, gestural artworks on three dimensional figures and landscapes, carefully manipulating colour and form to reflect the limits and depth of her subjects. Her brooding palettes lend a hypnotic quality to her pieces, which take on the energy and mystery of abstract dreamscapes.
Based in Herefordshire, Woods initially studied sculptor at Bath University but now works as a self-taught painter. She exhibited at The Hepworth Wakefield in 2011 and in 2012 she completed a huge piece, 125 meters long, for the Olympic Park in London. She has had a subsequent solo show at Southhampton Art Gallery, and exhibited at Harewood House in Leeds.
