The Painting Center has achieved an important milestone: its 21st Anniversary. Unique among galleries, The Painting Center has presented the work of talented, often under-recognized painters, and educated the public through exhibitions, lectures, panel discussions, performances and internships for over two decades. To celebrate this achievement and to ensure The Painting Center’s ability to continue to fulfill its mission, there will be a benefit exhibition of current and former members and invited artists who have supported the gallery. As a non-profit, artist–run gallery, The Painting Center has played a vital role in the careers of hundreds of artists. The exhibition and benefit event will support The Painting Center’s ability to continue to celebrate painting and nurture artists into a third decade.

“I wish to explore the concept of my own existence in this common space we call earth: sometimes I blend and flow with the environment that surrounds me; sometimes I feel as though I am floating in a completely separate space of my own. Often, I simply exist in between these two realities, hovering on the edge, much like the penumbra, between the light and the darkness, observing life’s ebb and flow.”

Dates: 19 Sep 2013 - 10 Oct 2013
A home holds within its walls a wide spectrum of comfort, warmth, rituals, habits, irritations, peace, sorrows, and joy. The perceptions of its objects, smells, colours, and textures are different to its various inhabitants, simultaneously holding the mundane and the unforgettable in the same space.
Like all my paintings, this body of work is personal. In it I express my strong connection to my home: everyday routines, memories of the past, the special corner where I keep my coffee paraphernalia, a place where I can be frazzled, a place where I can be calm. The textures (sometimes painted with a kitchen spatula, often on wood panel), the colours (abundant, provocative), and the various shapes all come from my relationship with my home.

Biography
It's really nice to meet you.
I help to create happiness by infusing moments of joy in everyday lives."
Claire Desjardins (b. 1965, Montreal) is an award-winning Canadian artist living and working in Gore, Quebec. Working primarily in painting, her formally driven work focuses on gesture and colour, emphasizing energetic, animated brush strokes and bold palettes. Her work is both highly abstract and highly personal, a dynamic expression of sentiments or reactions of which she is consciously unaware.
She regularly exhibits her work in galleries and art fairs throughout North America. In addition, she frequently teaches painting workshops and has served as a jury member on several national art prizes.
Claire has been involved with various corporate collaborations, including The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Microsoft, Nuvango, Gelaskins, and Shutterfly, among others. In Spring 2019, Claire launched her new signature collection of art apparel, Claire Desjardins, which is sold in stores across the US and in Canada, and in the UK.
She has live-painted on stage with the likes of Randy Bachman and Blue Rodeo and Styx. Her artwork was auctioned off, and the 100% of the proceeds were donated to help sick kids. She has participated in a number of charitable events.
Her work can be found in both private and corporate collections around the world.
