About Chris Kettle

  • Biography

A National Award winning Artist (NOAC) - I studied Fine Art (BA hons) in Cardiff where very early on I decided to take on the genre of STILL LIFE as a focus for my painting, having previously painted portraits.

Much of my career has seen me exploring the idea of ‘animism’ (within Still Life) - the attribution of a living soul to plants, inanimate objects and natural phenomena.

What initially appear as traditional Still Life paintings often emerge as fractured and glitched ‘homages’ to Old Masters, or just as often my own studies from life in the studio.

I have shown both nationally and internationally in group shows and solo shows including London, Milan, Gstaad - Switzerland.

Inspiration: Over recent years i have been preoccupied by the work of The Old Masters, Henri Fantin-Latour and The Euston Road school of painters.
