About Chris Carbone
Biography
Artist Statement
For me, painting is about the act of making marks, the interplay of colours, and the contrast between light and dark. I try to capture brightness, drama, and a powerful sense of atmosphere in each painting. My work represents a dialogue between spontaneous abstract gestures and figurative landscapes, balancing these two reference points to create captivating and thought-provoking images. The interaction of these elements is endlessly intriguing.
My paintings reflect my daily observations and experiences, which are brought to life on the canvas. I draw inspiration from various settings, including urban and rural landscapes, vibrant sunsets, dramatic cloud formations, and distant views of land and water. These diverse sources of inspiration enrich the depth and meaning of my work.
I am engaged in a creative process that is an ongoing journey of experimentation, embracing an improvisational approach that is immediate, spontaneous, intuitive, and, at times, contemplative. This allows for "happy accidents" that often lead to unexpected beauty. Each painting evolves from observations, reflections, and decisions made in the moment, shaping the work at every stage. The complexity of each piece, hints at something recognizable, emerging from incorporating an element of random abandon and risk in every composition, as well as layering paint to create the final artwork. My commitment to experimentation continues to endure.
