About Cayetano de Santamaria

GRADUATE APPLICATION As an artist, I believe the extraordinary beauty of art is that it speaks directly and yet, quite differently, to every individual. I do not expect everyone to appreciate my work but when I think about the possibility of changing a single person's perspective on an idea through my art, it excites me. In art galleries, or any other place that one sees art we witness the wonder of two individuals, the artist and the observer, dialoguing in silence at a deep intellectual and spiritual level. I like to draw and paint in a figurative way, strongly influenced by surrealism and art that shows the deep psychological expression of the mind. My art is also influenced by science, philosophy, and more recently by history and mythology. It is full of hidden narratives. I find aesthetics, figuration and metaphor to be important tools to express these stories. I keep a Charles Bukowski quote close to me that says, “ You begin saving the world by saving one person at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics.”. And that statement right there is what a great artist's works can offer, to save the world a person at a time. I
 have decided to show and sell my art in Artfinder because it is a huge opportunity to both work with a community of international artists, and also allow my work to reach many others online.
