About carolien wissing
Biography
Carolien Wissing (1976 Aalten, NL) was born on the countryside and currently lives and works in Amsterdam. She received her BA in Architectual Design from the Constantijn Huygens Academy in Kampen NL (1995-2000). After her graduation she lived -on and of- several years abroad and practiced a broad range of jobs, from horse trainer in Iceland to boat builder in Indonesia among others. Her homebase always remained Amsterdam and painting always has been her main practice.
‘Structures, landscapes and the way people shape their environment are the main pillars of my paintings. What attracts my attention or what confuses me often becomes a painting. In a sober color palette I paint recognizable subjects while at the same time I like to point out the large, transcending us. We always balance on a thin line in the hope of being able to reconcile them: the play of forces between man and nature, standstill and movement, control and chaos.’
Carolien’s
work was purchased by de G-sus industries, de Key housing
association, Amsterdam
museum, Benetton, NIOD, RWS and private collections
in EU, USA. Her work was shown at museum de Fundatie in Zwolle and
the Amsterdam museum. She often
initiates her own projects like ‘Art
Raw’ when she filled a huge factory hall, the Kromhouthal in Amsterdam, with
her work (2012) and ‘Art Ventures’ during ‘Art Rotterdam’ (2015) and ‘The White
Balls Spectacle’ in Amsterdam (2019) when her work was shown on the deep-sea
Trawler she calles her home.
