About Cally Lawson

  • Biography

I live on our family dairy farm in Cumbria, where I have my studio which has great views of nearby Dalton Crags. I enjoy hill walking and always take my sketchbook with me on my walks. The ever-changing weather and light across the fells and lakes provide constant inspiration for my paintings and I feel very privileged to live in the most beautiful part of the country.

I work with soft-bodied acrylic paints on both canvas and board, building up layers and using mark-making techniques to capture the repetition and rhythm of the pathways, becks, walls and ridges that take your eye through the landscape.

The annual Upfront Open Exhibition is now in its 19th year. The purpose of the show is to exhibit a wealth and wide cross section of artistic talent. The panel of judges choose an eclectic mix of work in various media and styles, both 2D and 3D.

The exhibition displays around 100 selected works in our various gallery spaces.
