Biography
For the last 20 years I create autonomous steel sculptures in my studio in Antwerp Belgium.
I studied both graphic design and audio-visual design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in the 1980's, and although my practice can be understood as diverse my background in graphic design is still clearly recognizable.
I balance playfully on the border of the abstract and the figurative. My work is shown previously in both established art space and gallery environments, as well as large-scale public spaces. When creating my sculptures, I commonly combine the digital with the manual cutting and welding. A recurring aspect in my work are 5mm steel ‘Seascapes'. Through these visualizations, I try to translate the dynamics of the sea into steel sculptures.
