About Barbara Kuebel

  • Biography
Born and raised in Austria I consider myself internationally influenced through different life stages in Brazil, The Netherlands and the US. I am now a professional printmaker and artist working and living in the UK.  I work in the interface of sculpturing and printmaking. I decided for a minimalist approach where the line is the most important carrier of information. I also print with large monochromatic blocks to lift the idea of printmaking art away from framed-only representations. I want to show that the monumantal character of hand made pieces are important to printmaking. With my handprinted works I create uniqueness with every print of the edition. Having said that, my prints are limited editions but have each a special feature because they merge with the idea of monoprint. My themes play with existance, being and body and I want the viewer consider the relative side of interaction. I never use backgroundswhich would create a situative meaning rather than want to show that the figure has more to say than the context.
