About Assol Kovtun

  • Biography
My name is Assol Kovtun, I’m from Ukraine. I developed a passion for drawing back in 2013, starting by learning from books and videos. Then I completed courses in drawing and painting, courses in web design and computer graphics, I went to an art studio as well.
In 2015, I spent a year and a half in Montenegro, during which time I traveled and created paintings for a local company's office. While my primary work is in logistics, I continue to devote significant time to my artistic development.
Between 2020 and 2022, I completed watercolor illustration courses, studied watercolor painting at online school, and attended a painting studio. Additionally, I completed a three-month course in oil painting in 2022. I have showcased my artwork in exhibitions in Melitopol, Kyiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk, selling my pieces through Ukrainian art platforms and the internet.
Recently, I relocated from Ukraine's Kharkiv to Calgary, Canada, where I continue to create art. Last year, I had the opportunity to participate in an exhibition focused on Fort Calgary (a historical landmark of the city) alongside fellow Canadian professionals and emerging artists. It was a valuable experience that helped me grow creatively and build new connections within the art community.
Also in the summer of 2023, I took part in the plein air painters’ club, where I've enhanced my drawing skills.
The beauty found in nature, people, and ordinary objects serves as a source of inspiration for me. My favorite subject matters are landscapes, botany, and still life, and I prefer to work with oil paints. Creativity is an essential part of my daily life, allowing me to express emotions, memories and love for the world around me.
