Biography
A strong connection with her cultural roots led Siberian Artist Marie Antuanelle to reflect this in her art practice in shape of abstract resin paintings.
Marie reflects in her art her childhood memories filled with warmth and love despite of being raised during the toughest years of Russia - after Soviet Union Destruction.
Her tough upbringing being the oldest sibling of three in a single parent family moved her desire helping other kids to have a better childhood towards donation of portion of sales to Sydney Children Hospital.
“I had lots of light and happy moments when I was a kid however that happened during very hard times for my family and motherland and they are somehow mixed and inseparable. It is a duality of life – combination of happiness and sadness at the same time”, she said.
“ With resin I just try to capture these emotions and make the viewer to see his or her life beginnings, remind them how they felt being a child.”
"From adult point of view my childhood was not the easiest - but we were children and had nothing to compare - so even the big puddle in front of our building that we used to cross over on the bunch of construction rubbish tied together was fascinating enough - it was our lake and our sailing yacht in summer and our ice skating ring in winter. I remember how we had our funny battles with mops, trying to nock each other into this muddy water full of trash. In front of our home there was abandoned construction site with crane (there were thousands of them during Perestroika 1990 - 1995, as many manufacturers and construction companies went bankrupt) - and we proudly called it our castle, it had 5 floors with broken glass and metal wires everywhere which we used as a magic forest; we claimed the crane numerous times trying to observe surroundings of our kingdom and this feeling of freedom and wind blowing your hair was one of the brightest moments. Behind of our house there were hundreds of single metal garages, standing wall to wall - and we were jumping from one roof to another and playing hide and seek in between. My father died when I was 7 and I had to help my mom caring for her 1 year old twins- my brother and sister, so every day after school I ran back home to baby sit my siblings while my mom was working, for that I would have 2 days of playing in the yard on the weekends. For 3 years we did not have meat on our table, we ate only potatoes, spaghetti and sometimes veggies that we grew on my grannies garden. But at those times many families were like that and it was not an odd thing. We were just kids and we were happy to get bananas for Xmas. There were lots of adventures and laugh.” – Marie Antuanelle.
Living in the heart of Bondi Junction Marie is very spiritual and paints during meditation, as she believes that positive energy can be transferred and is tangible through everything we create.
