About Antonia Thompson

  • Biography
I am a very instinctual painter and love exploring new ways of making marks with landscapes and still life work that are beyond being purely representational. I adore colour and am always looking. After working for 15 years in London as an online journalist, I returned to my first love of art and driven to show the world as I see it in paint rather than language. I studied Fine Art Printmaking in Dundee and my pre-occupation with surface is shown in my paintings. Using digital photo imagery from walks and runs in my local area of sea and hills, Hove beach and the South Downs. I work from these images and love to get really messy in my studio. I work very texturally in an earthy way with flashes of colour and energy. I also like to mix my memories of trips to the Greek Islands and the Alps with my local landscape experience and often use metallics to reflect the light on crystal waters or an alpine mountain. Since lockdown I have also explored Still Life work.
