About Antoinette Kelly

  • Biography
I am a British artist currently based in France. I studied graphic design and illustration in England. On leaving college I decided that I wanted to make paintings and exhibit them instead, so that's what I did! Having no formal training in painting, my work is naive in style with an illustrative quality. I am a member of 'The Association of British Naive Artists'. I always paint in acrylics as I like to work quickly. I paint on either paper or canvas and usualy on a small scale due to lack of space. My inspiration can come from so many different things. Happy memories from my childhood and life in England play an important part in my work and so do my dreams and fantasies.I find inspiration in the work of artists such as Rousseau, Vallotton, Balthus and Kit Williams. I never develop a painting through preparatory sketches. I see an image of a painting and draw straight onto the canvas or paper. I make changes as I go. I find my ideas develop easier when I have the finished format dimensions in front of me.
