About Andrew Moodie

  • Biography
For as long as I can remember, I have loved and been inspired by art. I managed to continue to draw and paint throughout a busy career as a lawyer and, since retiring (slightly) early at the end of 2018, I have relished the opportunity to follow my passion. Having spent the majority of my childhood and office years using soft pastels, my first love remains with this most immediate of media. I am delighted and honoured to be an Associate Artist for Unison Colour Soft Pastels, in my opinion the leading brand of soft pastel. I seek to be as expressive as possible and find that mixed media often suits this approach, using acrylic inks and sprays and sometimes watercolour and/or oil pastel, before finishing with my favourite pastels. My favourite subject is the landscape, in particular the Yorkshire Dales, but also the nearby coasts of Yorkshire and Northumberland and the breathtaking scenery of Scotland when I get back north of the border. I am never happier than when I am outside with my easel seeking to capture the landscape in all its glory. I also seek to enhance my drawing skills with life drawing and also paint portraits (both human and animal!). I have had paintings selected for the Patchings and Harrogate open exhibitions and was the Painters OnLine editor’s choice in the February 2020 issue of The Artist magazine.
