About Anahita Ghazanfari

  • Biography
Art has always been something that I have been instinctively drawn to. My love for art developed from growing up with an archaeologist father who has a passion for artistic artifacts. He believed that self-knowledge comes from an understanding of one’s past, and encouraged me to learn, understand and appreciate the country’s culture and traditions. We traveled around the country visiting museums, reading a lot of history books and poems. We listened to a lot of folk music at home. These experiences still feature prominently in my artworks today. After high school my constant calling and need to create things led me unexpectedly, yet happily, to Elm O Farhang University. I studied art there for 4 wonderful years before receiving my BFA in painting, in 2003. Being around other creative people during my college years helped me find and nurture my artistic voice - though that is a journey I still consider myself to be on. my father presented me with a life-changing gift of an analogue camera. This was the beginning of the most exciting and fulfilling journey of my life. Through my camera lens, I learnt to search, study, and see beyond the obvious. Photography became my media of artistic expression. I branched out into new mediums such as developing negative” film” and exploring the magic of manual photo developing. To me, artwork transcends medium. Camera and brush can complement with magnificent synchronization to create a breathtaking masterpiece that tells a wonderful poetic story. I find both photography and painting to be powerfully evocative in their own unique ways, and I always aim to make the best synergizing of both mediums. After I received my Bachelor of Arts in Painting, I proceeded to pursue a Master of Illustration at one of the best art universities in Iran. While doing my Master's, I taught art part-time and imparted the skills and knowledge I gained from my experienced professors to my young students. I moved to Malaysia to expand my horizon and see art from a perspective beyond my country. Living in the melting pot of culture and diversity, I met a lot of people from all walks of life, who taught me a lot more about art and inspired me in various exciting ways. I participated in international group exhibitions where I met artists from around the world and shared their experiences. I also worked with an international university which focuses on art and creativity, and had the opportunity to meet some of the most innovative and artistic young minds from around the globe. My love for art grows each day with each brushstroke, click and inspirational moment. I have learned to see the world through inquisitive eyes, where everything can present itself as a still to be captured on camera. A depiction is a moment of time captured and frozen in eternity. I do continue my life working and living in Turkey at the moment. The country which is so close to home historically and geographically yet has its own character in art and culture which gives me the opportunity to explore more and more and be able to expand my art freely to other parts of the world. I believe that art has the power of showing the soft side of the world to people. As an artist having a worldwide audience is a plus and of course I do love to be able to sell my works to people whom I have never met and might never came across in my life and that only happens when I can be part of the largest community which help me to get closer to my audience. In this journey I definitely need help and I think Artfinder is a great community that I could be part of because of the commitment and good reputation in art world. It would be a pleasure to be part of Artfinder as an artist and experience the best way of connecting to the world through my art.

I have Bachelor of Art in Painting and  Master of Art in Illustration.

    Event: The inviolables garden

    Dates: 16 Mar 2022 - 19 Mar 2022

    Venue: World Art Dubai, Dubai

The traditional garden of the Persians was a sacred space that was supposed to bring together inside its rectangle four parts representing the four parts of the world, with a space still more sacred than the others that were like an umbilicus, the navel of the world at its center (the basin and water fountain were there); and all the vegetation of the garden was supposed to come together in this space, in this sort of microcosm. As for carpets, they were originally reproductions of gardens (the garden is a rug onto which the whole world comes to enact its symbolic perfection, and the rug is a sort of garden that can move across space). The garden is the smallest parcel of the world and then it is the totality of the world. The garden has been a sort of happy, universalizing heterotopia since the beginnings of antiquity. Either their role is to create a space of illusion that exposes every real space, all the sites inside of which human life is partitioned, as still more illusory.

    Event: Secret Garden

    Dates: 10 Aug 2018 - 22 Aug 2018

Venue: Shirin Art Gallery, Tehran, Iran

“Michel Foucault contests the traditional notion of linear time, asserting that concepts of time have been understood in various ways, under varying historical circumstances. Foucault's idea corresponds with our understanding of space(s) over time. He establishes two unique sites -- utopias and heterotopias -- which are linked to other spaces, yet are also in contradiction to those other sites to which they are linked. A utopia is a fundamentally unreal space. In contrast, a heterotopia is a real space, which is simultaneously mythic and real. All cultures are heterotopias, according to Foucault, who provides two categories and five principles to explain the concept's application in reality. One of his principles is that, They may take the form of contradictory sites, such as the representation of a sacred garden as a microcosm of the world in the patterns of a Persian rug.

Event: Art Residency / open studio

    Dates: 22 Sep 2017 - 23 Sep 2017

    Venue: Glogauair Studios, Berlin, Germany

The Idea of creating the garden I used to grow up on just came to me while I was sitting in my studio in Berlin watching the sun coming through the window bringing in the movement of leaves in the wind on the ground. This immediately took me to my childhood memories. We laid down on carpets and played with the sunlights which lit up the trees and flowers on our carpet. Somehow the life of our garden depended on sunlight. The mesmerising moves got into me and made me want my garden to always be alive and this was the beginning of creating a collection.
Imagine the ability to immerse yourself into the living, breathing pages of our history and you see the nurture in its most pure form, where the time has stopped a long time ago but the human still lives up to the eternal rhythm of nature.

    Event: Story of Rooms

    Dates: 28 Feb 2016 - 5 Mar 2016

Venue: Atelier Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, malaysia

Here is some words from the curator of this exhibition:
It takes skill to fill an empty space; it takes soul to turn the space into a room; it takes heart to give the room a story.
Anahita Ghazanfari’s creation of the Story of Rooms was by intuition, an expression of self and a subconscious reflection of a basic need – comfort. The need to fill a gap of emptiness turned into a series of intimate paintings of rooms decorated with furniture and interiors that seem simple enough to the eye but touches the heart warmly. A connection is bridged by an invisible pull to wonder further about the story of each room.
