About alice brickner

  • Biography
    Native New Yorker
    My work is usually watercolors.
In recent years I’ve used several techniques that involve cutting up my paintings and rearranging the elements. I’ve made them as woven pictures or as mosaics or strip collages. My goal is to catch the bounce and movement of light. I haven’t had commercial training. After I graduated from college I worked as a designer in a firm that made silk fabrics. When I had my first child I moved on to free lance illustration. My work came from Art directors who wanted pictures that looked more painterly. I did magazine illustrations, book jackets and pharmaceutical promotion. Between assignments and promoting my work, I was always I was painting
