About Adriano Ribeiro

  • Biography

I was born in the Amazonian city of Belém, Brazil. In 2000, I moved to Italy and have lived there since. I've been painting, sculpting, and drawing since I was a kid, starting with realistic art and later switching to abstract art. I studied philosophy and design, but most of what I've learned about art is self-taught. I now work on my sunny farm-studio in the beautiful Sicilian countryside. I speak English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian fluently.

Artist Statement: To me, making art is all about capturing the moment. I'm a practical person, so I don't try to put deep meanings or philosophical ideas into my art. I'm more interested in creating art that you can feel right away.

In simple terms, I want my art to bring out emotions through its beauty and abstraction. I want people to look at my art and feel something, whether it's happiness or tears, without needing to fully understand it. I like the idea that my art is a way for me to express myself beyond just being a creator. It's like a burst of energy on my canvas.

My art often has elements of science and science fiction mixed with abstract shapes and ideas. I like how these different things come together, like a cosmic collaboration.

I've been working with art materials for over 30 years, and that experience helps me create my abstract pieces. I believe that the universe adds something special to my work – the real magic: energy, connection, and a deep understanding.

This Artist Statement will probably change in the future, just like everything else in life keeps changing. Just as molecules and atoms are always moving, so am I.

The Process: I mainly paint on canvas, and I like using thick, rough cotton material. Sometimes, I also use heavy paper or wood. I usually work on a few pieces at the same time, without planning or sketching beforehand. I prepare the surfaces and textures a day before I start.

My process can be physically demanding, but I enjoy it. Even when things get tough, I take a break, go for a walk, or meditate. Sometimes, I leave everything as it is and come back to it the next day.

Materials: For my art, I use things like canvas, wood, paper, gesso, beeswax, acrylic paints, oil paints, UV resin, spray paint, and pastels. I also have tools like spatulas, brushes, brooms, heat guns, and glue guns.

Awards and Grants: • 3rd Place in the IV SART Rondonya Award, Brazil – 1997 • 1st Place in the "La Fenice" Palermo Award, Italy – 2001

Collections: • People have my art in their homes in the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. • One of my proudest moments is having my art on display at the MUDAC "Museo D'Arte Contemporanea" in Syracuse, Italy.
