About Adel Sansur

Adel Sansur was born in 1945. His affinity for art was readily apparent as a child. He was quite influenced by his mother, an accomplished painter and watercolorist of the early to mid-twentieth century. Adel Sansur has been painting landscapes,street scenes, beach scenes and still life since his teens. Though he had private tutoring in his youth and worked with several prominent artists over the east coast. Sansur still considers himself to be self-taught but is influenced by the impressionists. Adel Sansur's technique is unique in itself as his brushstrokes are deliberate , thick and border impasto at times creating relief and depth of field while keeping perspective alive.All his canvases are museum primed and have a starting wash of burnt sienna and flesh tones and from there the layering of paint starts.The traces of the initial coats and those of subsequent coats create a three dimensional look to his works.Once you see Sansur's work you will know it instantly if you come across it again.At times his work reach expressionism and at times abstract expressionism.

Adel Sansur studied medicine and emigrated to the United States in the early 1970s and pursued a medical career which spanned two and a half decades. He obtained his US citizenship, and has been living in the US ever since. Throughout this time however, he incessantly would draw anything of interest to capture the beauty of the moment.　 He would then change these drawings into unique oil impressions and expressions.　 Although Adel Sansur is a　plein air artist, he also draws inspiration from his own digital photographs portraying local scenes from areas in Maryland Virginia and Pensylvania, as well as scenes from New England beaches and his travels abroad.

Adel Sansur's love for art eventually won over his medical career and for the past two decades, he has been devoting all his time to painting and running his own studio in Reisterstown, Maryland.
