Born in 1981 in Yerevan, Armenia, Abgar Khachatryan is an Armenian artist celebrated for his innovative collage work that blends graphic techniques with painting. His formal training began at P. Terlemezian Art College, where he studied painting from 2001 to 2003, and continued at the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Art, from which he graduated in 2009 with a degree in art graphics.
In 2010, Khachatryan was elected a member of the Armenian Artists' Union, an achievement that solidified his standing in Armenia's art scene. His artworks are part of private collections in Armenia, Europe, and Russia, where his pieces are highly regarded. Khachatryan has also participated in numerous exhibitions, showcasing his works across Armenia, Europe (Italy, Malta), and Russia (Moscow, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Omsk, and Barnaul).
Initially, Khachatryan focused on graphic art, using his own monotype technique on small metal surfaces. Today, his work combines both graphic and painting methods in collages, where he skillfully incorporates materials such as wood, canvas, and oil. His art is marked by the use of symbolic elements, including ancient manuscript text, coin designs, crosses, and other historical motifs, which give his work a deeply cultural and introspective quality. Khachatryan’s collage pieces are celebrated for their complex layering and intricate detailing, merging the traditional with the contemporary in a unique and compelling way.
