About Peter Shanahan
Biography
I left college and started my studies in architecture in 1960 and began painting the same year. I became more involved in sculpture (wood carving, marble, welded steel and cast bronze and alluminium) and painting and began to work primarily on landscapes while living and studying in Tasmania from the early 70's. I also studied sculpture and metal casting in Launceston and assisted a well known local sculptor Stephen Walker in his studio/foundry for a short time. I have exhibited both paintings and sculpture in Australia and overseas and represented in various private collections as well as undertaking several sculpture commissions.
Over
the years I have produced work in landscapes, figurative, portraits and at
present I am continuing to develope my abstract paintings, working full time. I
have worked in both oils and acrylics and at present using mixed media – using
anything that gives me the effect that I’m looking for. In the main, my subject
matter is related to my studies in Bible prophesy and end times.
I paint what I feel, not necessarily what I see.
I'm not overly fond of pretty pictures.
I want the viewer to be drawn into my pictures - love them or not !
I am have currently put together a web site and have an account on facebook with a page dedicated to my paintings and sculpture (soon to be published) – also looking at instagram.
