Jane's painting Desperado shows a woman downtown on a Saturday night. With its garish red background and the woman's sultry appearance the painting hints at prostitution - and although the woman is smiling seductively, her gaze out of the picture frame implies that she wants to escape. Hence the title Desperado – the English version of the Spanish word Desperada which means a desperate woman in Spanish. Despite these hints at prostitution, the viewer is left unsure whether it is simply a painting of a young carefree girl out seeking a good time on Saturday night.
To create her painting Jane appropriated a photo from a 1950s pulp detective magazine. This acrylic painting on canvas is ready to hang and has beautiful acrylic colors and a gloss varnish finish. The main colors in this wall art are red and lime green.
