Original artwork description:

This is a portrait is of my beloved partner, Steven. I started planning the piece with an initial drawing, and followed up with some photographs to complete the painting in more detail. This helped as he was a slightly awkward sitter, uncomfortable in the limelight.

Steven is from the Highlands of Scotland, and seems to possess an innate bravery and strength, yet he is modest with it. He could not understand why I would want to focus on him. I hoped to convey his gentle beauty with this work, as well as express his strength and reserve. I left the uneven space around him, to mimic his own expression of quiet, self-conscious contemplation.
