"VR01" is a vibrant canvas that delves into the tumultuous nature of contemporary warfare, transformed by the digital era. The inspiration for this work comes from the abstract representation of war and conflict as seen through the lens of digital media – fragmented, chaotic, and overwhelming.
In this piece, I hope viewers are prompted to reflect on the saturation of war imagery in media and the desensitization that can occur from such constant exposure. The use of vivid, almost surreal colors juxtaposed with dark silhouettes of military paraphernalia aims to evoke a sense of dissonance – a clash between the reality of war and its often-glamorized portrayal.
The medium of oil paint was chosen for its versatility and the vividness of its hues, which allowed me to capture the intensity of the subject matter with clarity and depth. The subject matter, a maelstrom of military icons and explosions, reflects the confusion and chaos of war, while the style – a blend of abstraction and figuration – mirrors the complexity and disorientation of contemporary conflict narratives.
