This is one of a few pieces I created in 2019 as a study into shade, with different techniques to bring the object (a rams skull) onto the paper. This one was created after getting high grade soot and mixing it with ionised water to create something akin to a paint to then erase off the paper when it was dry. A good technique I will use again, although I am band for creating the paint on the hob in the kitchen due to the 2 weeks it took to clean the very fine dust the soot actually is, of of pretty much every surface.
After reducing the background, the rest of the image was drawn in with compressed charcoal, conte crayon and chalk.
