Original artwork description:

My works on paper are studies for works on canvas. This study explores the painterly gestural mark constrained by the cut edges of collaged paintskin, in contrast with the material presence of lines of satin embroidery thread which reflect light. My work explores tensions between these contrasts as a way to think through our increasingly polarised society.

This abstract composition refers to the blossoming and decay of flowers, reminiscent of Vanitas paintings. Pink is a colour that I frequently use, with connotations of the feminine, and flesh.

Materials used:

Acrylic, paintskin and embroidery on 300 gsm paper
