This is a still life painting of three deep purple-red onions, each an individual with its own character. Each onion has equal weight in this composition dividing the viewers gaze equally to highlight the unique form and colour of the individual onion. To Alastair, the still life represents a moment grounded in human experience and consciousness and through analysis of these moments, a beautiful intricacy can be found, a depth and richness that surrounds us in our day to day lives. Painted from life under cool natural light which creates a light and atmospheric quality to this piece.
