The Planets is a series of tondi canvasses capturing the planets of our solar system, owing major depts to Gustav Holst’s The Planets orchestral suite, astronomy’s contributions to planetary imagery, and the astrological imagination. Each tondo renders the essence of the planet by means of elemental, textural, material, and chromatic signification.
The Planets does not seek to to depict our planets on canvas, but rather for that canvas to figure the imagination of each planet in the series in its entirety; the planet becomes object rather than subject. In so doing, the Planets forms a direct relationship with its spectator, and it is that relationship between human and solar system, both material and cultural, which the Planets asks us to consider.
EACH CANVAS IS 30x30 cm. THE DELIVERY OF THIS ARTWORK WILL BE FROM RUSSIA
