Taosia is an unusual sculpture representing an elven creature with Asian features, evoking wisdom and feminine intuition through lovely tones of cinnamon, black and pale green ochre.
Its name comes from -tao and -sia. Tao is regarded in Asia as the fundamental force that flows through all things in the universe, while Sia is a deity from Egyptian mythology, personifying intuition and helping to make the right decisions.
This work belongs above all to the Ostréïdes series, which uses a combination of unusual natural materials, as in the case of Taosia's ears, hands and headdress, created from dried urns of a carnivorous plant called nepenthe. The arms and hands are sculpted from root wood, while the tunic is made from painted and varnished wood flower. Ostreides generally evoke the wisdom of the soul transcending matter...
Base in homemade heavy wood, blackened to resemble antique wood.
Signed on the base.
Materials: natural gourd wood, dried nepenthe carnivorous plant urns, root wood, wood flower, surfine wood cellulose, acrylic paint, marine varnish.
Dimensions with base approx.: H 52 x W 13.5 x D 13.5 cm
calabash wood, wood cellulose, acrylic paint, varnish
