I love a sunny day in the depths of Winter, it really does lift the spirits. Silver birches are one of my favourite trees and I have walked passed these ones for years on Wimbledon Common. I love the way the pale trunks cut so elegantly across the wintry backdrop. This copse of trees is between the Windmill car park and Wimbledon village. There are some walkers in the distance on the footpath. I have used Michael Harding oil paints on a fine cotton, Italian canvas. The painting has been framed in a bespoke wooden 'floating' frame where the canvas hovers in the middle of the frame. The moulding was chosen to bring out the warm colours of the ground and to emphasise the organic feel of the trees and wood.
