The word "peony" comes from "paionios" - from the Greek "healing, healing". It is also believed that the peony comes from the small town of Paeonia in Thrace, where it grows literally everywhere, and therefore is named after the place of growth.

According to the legend that came from Greek mythology, the peony is one of the symbols of longevity. The talented physician Peon, a disciple of Asclepius, the god of healing, lived in Ancient Greece.
Legend has it that Peon managed to heal the god of the underworld, Hades, after his fight with Hercules. Asclepius, envying the gift of his disciple, decided to poison him. Peon found out about the impending revenge and asked for help. And the Greek gods turned Peon into a beautiful flower as a thank you.
