I am Olya Shevel; I was born in Ukraine and live in New Zealand. I have been painting professionally for 9 years. My paintings are in galleries and collections in New Zealand, Ukraine, Australia, USA, France, Singapore, England, Ukraine and Italy.
My experience gave me a deep understanding of various techniques, and also found my own unique style that people love.
My story is magical and goes beyond the ordinary. I learned in a series of dreams that was completed after my parents’ death.
After only six months of learning in dreams, I held my first personal exhibition at "Breathing Colours" Sydney Australia; I still work with this gallery now.
A favourite theme was the white of birch trees against the backdrop of the landscape.
The idea of the paintings is that the lines of the trees calm the mind, and the landscape in the background is blurred and gives the viewer the opportunity to relax. The viewer participates in the picture, each time finding new images. And also the possibility of smooth transitions from one colour to another saturates and gives a flight of fancy. Paintings give the opportunity to hear your soul, peer into the shimmer in the picture and swim in a stream of light and love. This Silver Birch theme also represents my childhood near the river in Ukraine where the Birch is native as well as the many birch trees planted in New Zealand where the tree is a favourite. I have my own “inspirational” stand by the lake close to my home.
It can be said that my painting is focused on relaxation and renewal of energy in a person.
As well as painting, I also write fairy tales and poems, also based on my dreams.
I wrote and illustrated my first book, Dreams Come True. The story about a lamb named Boom who wanted to fly, no one believed he could, but through the help of a friend, a Butterfly princess, his dream came true.
A fairy tale is also a message for adults. It is important to dream and our dreams will surely come true. By helping people, we ourselves become happy and the events of our life are arranged in the way we want.
Selling paintings helps me fund the gift of these books to children who may not be able to afford them.
My work gives people the opportunity to participate in the process of creation called "Do good for the joy of people."
