This is a painting of a Native American or “pueblo” village, abandoned many years ago, but originally people came here around 7500 BC.
It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Viewed from a higher perspective, the painting shows the beautiful colours of the rosy brick built structures against the dark overhang of the actual Mesa Verde. Mesa Verde means green table, grey-green sage brushes, firs, Ponderosa pines, junipers and prickly pear cacti are among the plants and trees growing here.
