Red kites where once hunted to the point of extinction in the UK but now they thrive, how empty the skies must have been without them. They are masters of the thermals and swoop and dive with great majesty above their ancestral hunting grounds.
This is my impression of their silhouettes, fashioned in copped and patinated with a verdi gris patina to evoke the timeless nature of this sight. The piece is mounted on ancient bog wood, I imagine it was felled when the last kites flew over the UK, it has developed a rich colour and reassuring weight over the centuries.
