The Kingfisher is a frequent resident bird of the local waterways in central Florida. There are interesting to watch as they will dive from a perch straight down into the water, catching a fish or crustacean under the water and the flying straight up out of the water back to the branch with their catch. Their call is a distinct rattling sound and I often hear them before spotting them. I chose to do a watercolor study of a female before attempting this oil painting of her. With her mohawk crown feathers and bright blue and rust colors I was inspired to paint her upon first sight.
