This painting pays homage to the Spanish hunting dogs. I recently donated a painting to the charity Project Galgo, who rescue abandoned greyhounds and galgos in Spain, the practice of breeding dogs just for hunting season then slaughtering them when it's over is hideous and makes me feel ashamed to be part of the human race. They often show the transformation of dogs who have been cruelly treated and left for dead then rescued, nursed and rehomed. Sadly only a samll minority are given the chance of survival.
Still I Rise has been painted on a stretched 18 x 24inch canvas using acrylic and mixed media, it is sealed with satin varnish and unframed but ready to hang.
The layers of mixed media add texture and depth while giving the artwork a painterly expressive aesthetic.
This is a statement piece with a heartfelt sentiment.
