Artwork description:

The original piece was sculpted in 3 woods with the mushroom base and human in ash, mushroom top in mahogany and the grasshopper in brown oak. The small man who is hiding in the mushroom folds was originally a whimsical addition. The grasshopper’s long legs and the veining of the mushroom cap were the focus of this sculpture and only later did the human to insect scale become the story line. If you look closely at the bronze sculpture you will see the wood grain of the original carved piece.
