Original artwork description:

I wanted to express the challenges that the immigrant children can face while in search for their identity. In this painting the young female is in the moment of daydreaming as she is hoping to find the sense of identity and belonging. Although she is with her mom and working for her, she may feel the distance and loneliness, since her desire to adopt to a new culture may conflicts with her mom's desire for her future. She would have to constantly feel the tension between the traditions and the new culture she is adopting to and this will complicate her journey to find her identity. I included the symbolic objects to represent the different cultures and the dreams and hopes that the subjects in the painting have. For example, the fish that the young female is about to touch is called Gashigogi, and it is Korean endangered fish. I wanted to show the subject's desire to preserve her cultural traditions and how that may conflict with her other desires.
