Original artwork description:

This large outdoor work is part of a series of studies on the Gunnera Gigantica leaf. Each study uses a different technique for preserving the form of this impressive plant.

'Fossilised' was created by casting the leaf in a rectangular bed of concrete to create a relief impression. The purpose of the shape of the frame and the use of concrete was to bring a strong contrast to the organic and delicate structure of the leaf.

Over time the industrial brutishness of the work will be softened by nature as moss and lichen colonise it.
