My obsession with flight and birds is something that I did not realize until I began painting. As we were little we would constantly ask each other " if you could have one super power, what would it be?". I would always pick invisibility or flight, but now in my later years in life I think flight is the way to go. The ability to go miles and miles away in thin air is something magical to me. No fossil fuels needed, no bus, train, skateboard or bike. To me flight represents complete freedom and boundlessness. This is partially the reasoning behind the name, Everlong.
The next point of interest, birds. they are chosen to represent a variety of things through symbolism. What they represent is as easy as changing the color of the bird sometimes, other times it requires a different breed to signify something else. Thus for this painting I wanted to portray the common person, both you and me. But not in a "typical" way. I wanted to show how we can break through the typical and become something magical and unique. I wanted to portray the typical, doing the extraordinary to prove the fact that you have the power to change and to break through. This is the beauty of life, it is parallel with flight in my eyes. Why should your life have limits? Remove all fear, and live for love and passion.
