Original artwork description:

The process begins with a square of wet calico. Upon forming the nose, the rest of the portrait materialises, with no real knowledge of what kind of person will manifest from the organic folds of the material. It is then painted with gesso and oil paint to highlight the facial features.

'Dutchess' was mounted upon an oil painted sky after a conversation with a friend who moved to Amsterdam from Scotland - "The sky in Holland feels higher and bluer than in Scotland, the clouds no longer feel like they are resting upon my shoulders."

The painted sculpture is signed underneath the neck fold and on the back.

Materials used:

calico, gesso and oil paint
