Original artwork description:

An expressionistic painting of the dip (dell) in my garden in Cambridge. It's shaded by three huge trees (sycamore and lime) and the bank is covered in rocks, flowers and shrubs. I had been looking at a lot of German expressionist (die Brucke; Nolde, Mueller etc.) landscapes and wanted to depict it in a loose, gestural way rather than in fine detail. I used unusually thick watercolours and let them do what they wanted, to a certain extent, with some guidance.
