I stayed in Panama for awhile and was totally taken by the shadows of plants on the white painted walls - and floors. When I see something that impresses me I take a lot of time just looking and absorbing. I could see so many colours in the shadows as well as in the bright sunlight. I painted in layers, often changing the layout until I think it has produced what I feel - expressing the heat, the brightness of the sun and the tactile-ness of the wall and the plants themselves. Oil lends itself well to playing with the paint, until I have what I see. It dries slowly - so it may take quite a few days or sometimes weeks to complete.
