Often, when I create a piece, I like to establish a connection among its elements through a dominant color, in this case, blue.
It prominently features in the glass vase holding a pink chrysanthemum, echoing the bluish hues of the plums in the bowl or the intense blue of the lapis lazuli resting on the surface. I enjoy the contrast between the ephemeral or fragile, like the flower, plums, and vase, and the enduring and material, namely the stone and marble inlays, which also maintain the cool tones that harmonize well with blue. Marble inlays taken from the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, also known as the Gesuiti, harken back to a past indelibly imprinted in my and our collective memory, to which I turn my gaze for inspiration and a sense of belonging.
Wood, acrylics, protective paint.
