This is from a series of artworks I painted last August, when my apple tree was in full crop. I was interested in the contrast of the harsh summer light and the shadows that I saw, all mixed up with the the pattern of the sharpness of the leaves and the shapes of the apples. Because of the balance between light and shade I got to thinking about Newton and his story of discovering the theory of gravity; which I then put into paint. I wanted the series to invoke the reverse of Newton's theory; having more weight at the top and painting thin glazes of paler colours at the bottom - it's always good to look at things from a different perspective.
The tree is very old, and doesn't produce "supermarket apples" (but they are good). It grows beside my horses' paddocks - much to their annoyance and frustration there is a sturdy fence between them and the tree!
The sides are painted white and the piece is ready to hang. I will ship it bubble- wrapped, sandwiched between two 2.5 cm insulation panels, enclosed in a hardboard box.
Thanks for dropping by my store!
