Original artwork description:

Made entirely from 3 pieces of driftwood collected from lake and sea shores familiar to the Atlantic salmon in its migration. The base is oak whilst the stem is of unknown species. The salmon itself is carved from ancient* tree root (probably Scots pine). Just one side has been carved with the reverse left in its weathered state.

* The tree was felled some time between c500 years ago and the last ice age with the roots preserved in the peat until recently being washed out by wave action.
